Large area (wall-to-wall carpeting should be treated as part of the structure)
Inspection
Look closely at rug edges, where the tag attaches and where furniture and walls are in contact with the rug. (Learn more about inspection).
Preferred Control Method
Isolation
Have the rug wrapped and placed in professional storage. (Learn more about isolation).
Other Control Options
Vacuum
Vacuum the surface and edges well. This may not be very helpful if there are eggs on parts of the rug. If that is suspected, combine vacuuming with steam. (Learn more about vacuuming).
Heat
Whole space heating will treat an unrolled rug effectively. If the rug is rolled up heating will be difficult. (Learn more about heat).
Steam
A good option to kill bed bugs and their eggs, while cleaning the carpet. Do not use a standard rug steamer. See page 58-59 for more information about the right machine. (Learn more about steam).
Not Recommended - Hand wash, Freeze, Desiccant dust
