Inspection
Due to the numbers of hiding spots, inspection might be difficult but should be used to
confirm that bed bugs are present and treatment is warranted. (Learn more about inspection).
Preferred Control Method
Isolation
Place item in a large bag sealed to be airtight for six months. (Learn more about isolation).
Steam
Get steam into all gaps, tubes and crevices. (Learn more about steam).
Other Control Options
Hand wash
Remove fabric parts and wash metal and plastic parts of the frame with hot soapy water. (Learn more about hand wash).
Vacuum
Vacuuming first will reduce chances of spreading bed bugs. Use vacuum with hair dryer. (Learn more about vacuuming).
Heat
Clothes dryer, hair dryer or space heating. Remove fabric and upholstered parts and heat treat in a hot dryer. Use hair dryer to blow hot air into gaps, tubes and crevices, vacuuming any bugs as you go. Space heating will be very effective. (Learn more about heat).
Not Recommended - Freeze, Desiccant dust
